Proof of the school district's excellence is abundant:

For the fifth consecutive year, students in School District Five achieved the top scores in the state on the SAT-I. Since 1993, District Five students have posted the highest average SAT scores in the state every year except for two. In 1996, district students scored the second best in the state; in 1995, students scored the fifth highest in the state.

Lexington 1 had 66 percent of its seniors take the SAT. For SC as a whole, the figure was 57 percent.

School District Five has been named the 1998 Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Award winner in the arts education division. The award, the highest arts honor presented in the state, recognizes the district's fine arts program for exceptional and exemplary leadership, achievement and contribution to and for the arts.

Chapin Middle School has been honored for excellence as a National Blue Ribbon School. Of the more than 100,000 schools across the country, only 166 were named National Blue Ribbon Schools this year. Chapin High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 1995. This year Chapin High School is a finalist in the Palmetto's Finest competition.
